Independence On Wheels
Have you ever been truly afraid of the one thing you really wanted?
I have.
At age 43, rheumatoid arthritis left nearly all my joints immobile. For years, my only option was to sit in a wheelchair and be pushed around.
When my doctor suggested a 400-pound motorized wheelchair, everyone spoke enthusiastically about one word: INDEPENDENCE.
And I wanted it desperately. But I hadn’t ventured outside alone in 3 years.
Standing at the top of my front door ramp, staring at the initial bump, I backed away. I was terrified.
I finally set the speed to “turtle,” drove down that ramp, turned the speed to “rabbit,” and ran straight into a muddy tree on a steep bridge?
It taught me a lesson about freedom, courage, and asking for help that changed my life forever.
